About the role
JobEng is a UK platform built by a civil engineer for the engineering and construction industry. Engineering firms use it to run hiring, HR, payroll, finance, tenders and projects; engineers use it to build a profile, take technical assessments and apply for roles. It is live on iPhone, Android and the web.
We are looking for a part-time full-stack developer to look after the app and the server with the founder. You will work on a real product used by firms and candidates, own your work from start to finish, and help decide what gets built next. We would like this role to grow as the business grows.
This role is fully remote within the UK, with flexible hours.
Responsibilities
- Fix bugs and ship improvements in the mobile app (React Native / Expo)
- Build and maintain API endpoints in Node.js / Express
- Write and review PostgreSQL queries and migrations, keeping each company's data separate and secure
- Release over-the-air updates and new builds to the App Store and Google Play
- Look after the Linux server: nginx, pm2, SSL certificates, backups, monitoring and security updates
- Work with third-party services: Stripe billing, AI providers, e-mail and push notifications
- Write automated tests (Jest) and short notes so every change can be deployed and rolled back safely
- Investigate issues reported by users and explain the fix clearly
Qualifications
- Commercial experience with React Native and Node.js
- Confident with SQL (PostgreSQL) and working on a Linux server over SSH
- Careful with live data, security and privacy
- Clear written English and able to work independently, remotely
- Right to work in the UK
- Nice to have: Expo / EAS, Stripe, UK GDPR awareness, B2B or HR software experience
