Salah Ibrahim

Civil engineer, 29 years in construction. Founder of JobEng — the operational system I wanted in every firm I worked in.

Twenty-nine years on site and in the office

I graduated in civil engineering from Zagazig University in 1997 and have worked in construction ever since: on site, in design offices, in tendering and estimating, and running the budgets, programmes and people behind buildings and infrastructure. The work has taken me from Egypt to the Gulf and now to the United Kingdom.

From 2016 I have owned and run a contracting company in Qatar, which means I have sat on both sides of the table: the engineer who has to prove the concrete, and the owner who has to pay for it, win the next tender and keep the team paid on time.

In 2024 I set up Sesysy Ltd in Leicester to build JobEng.

Why I built JobEng

Every firm I worked in ran the same way: a different system for each thing — one for hiring, one for HR, one for payroll, spreadsheets for tenders and projects — and a person whose real job was retyping numbers from one into another. Decisions waited for reports that never quite agreed.

JobEng is one database for the whole engineering firm, so the engineer you hire is the employee you pay, on the project you are costing, against the tender you won. It is not a recruitment tool and not an accounting package; it is the operational system an engineering firm runs on, with an AI construction workspace that reads your drawings and gives back take-offs, a priced Bill of Quantities and RFIs. Engineers and students use the same app, free, to find UK engineering jobs and apply with one profile.

I write most of the code myself and I read every e-mail. If something in the app is wrong, tell me and I will fix it.

What I write about

Two articles go out every day on the JobEng blog:

  • Engineering problems and solutions — a long-form piece on one real site or design problem: what goes wrong, why, how to spot it, the standard fixes and their limits, the innovative solutions now available, a worked example, prevention, and who to involve. Concrete, steel and structure, ground and foundations, drainage and roads, building services, running the site, money and contracts, health and safety.
  • Running an engineering firm, and an engineering career — practical guides: site diaries, retention money, cash-flow forecasting, payment applications, document control, hiring on evidence, CVs that pass an ATS, chartership.

The articles are written with AI assistance from a problem bank and rules I set — British English, no invented figures, no clause numbers quoted from memory — and they are reviewed against my own experience. They are general guidance for engineers; the designer, the temporary works coordinator and the contract always come first on a real project.
